Nail fail? Butter London The Black Knight + Tart with a Heart

Hello girls :) It's been a while!

I've been super busy with wedding planning and traveling back home that I have neglected my blog!  Well hopefully since I'm on a roll with the planning and I've finished up frankening, I'll have more time for it again :D

Today I've got a semi-nail fail to show you!  I fell in love last December when Scrangie blogged about the Holiday Dressing Table collection from Butter London.  I. Had. To. Have. It.

I didn't get around to purchasing until earlier this summer and The Black Knight is just NOT a summer color so I stashed it away.  (I did use Tart with a Heart over some other polishes, though...LOVE).

Anywho, I decided since it's now fall to bust out this combo!  Here are the shots (Sorry I don't have any shots of either polish alone...this is just the combo!):

I do not know what happened between last year and this year, because I loved The Black Knight + Tart with a Heart when I first saw swatches....but after application? Blech.  I took it off right away!

I haven't given up all hope.  I've convinced myself that the combination of the purple undertones of The Black Knight plus the green undertones of Tart with a Heart plus my skintone and longer nails just resulted in me kind of hating it.

Now don't get me wrong, they both applied great!  I used two coats of The Black Knight and one coat of Tart with a Heart topped with Seche Vite--they went on smooth just like all BL polishes!  I think with how long my nails are and how pale my skin is, I just felt like it looked witchy!  If I was going for that Halloween look I would've kept it on :)  But sadly, I'm not.

I think I'll save The Black Knight for shorter nails...or maybe mid-winter, when it'd work better! 

Did you girls pick this combo up when it came out last year?  What'd you think?

Holy Holo, Batman! BK Holographic Polishes!

Today I've got two AWESOME holographic polishes to show you ladies.  I apologize severely for the amount of pictures :) They just don't do it justice!

The two polishes I've got to show you are BK Holos, I swapped with a girl in Hong Kong to get them and despite them being minis, I love love love them!

First, check out BK Holo #5 (pink):

Wowsers!!!  This is such a great polish, I am so glad I got my hands on it!  The formula is a little thin, not unlike other holographics, but it went on opaque in two coats.  It was a little hard to apply with the tiny brush, but I managed all right I think.  I am so drawn to pink holographic polishes that I have quite a few now, I'll have to do a comparison with some of the other pink holos available in the U.S. later!

Next: BK Holo #20 (black):

Ahhh!  Love this! Now, I haven't been able to get my hands on a holographic My Private Jet, but I've seen swatches and I imagine this is better :)  I may be biased, though!  The formula for #20 is the same as #5, a little thin, but it went on in two coats as well.  In the sun it's just AWESOME.  Wow!  Seriously, zoom in on some of those pictures and you'll see what I mean! 

I wish I had larger bottles of these--do any of my international ladies know if they make them in bigger bottles?  I need more!!!

CG Capitol Colors Part 2

Now that the Hunger Games movie is out and getting rave reviews, I thought I'd review a few more of the China Glaze Capitol Colors polishes!  Today I've got for you Electrify, Smoke and Ashes, Luxe and Lush, and Stone Cold.  My mom picked me up a Riveting a while ago, too, but I haven't got it from her yet :( So that's in a future post! 

First: Electrify

Electrify is a clear based polish packed with fine gold and red glitter.  It's dense enough for you to get pretty much full coverage in three coats (as seen above), but would still look great layered over a difference color.  I liked the formula on this one--despite it being packed with glitter, it applied well.

Next: Smoke and Ashes

Smoke and Ashes a dark shimmery black polish with just the slightest hint of greenish blue undertones.  This polish applied quite well in two coats.  I love that in the light you can see the flecks of blue and green in the shimmer.  It's a unique enough of a black for me to wear again :)

Next: Luxe and Lush

Luxe and Lush is a gorgeous rainbow flakie top coat.  Within the milky clear polish are flakies of gold, green, pink, and blue, which I think would look great paired with nearly any color.  They apply decently well, but I believe my pictures show two coats since I really wanted a BAM in your face picture of the flakies.  In the pictures L&L is layered over Smoke and Ashes!

Lastly: Stone Cold!

Stone Cold is the only matte polish in this collection and I like it a lot.  Since mattes dry quickly, you have to apply them quickly and carefully. I don't do the best polishing job right off the bat so my pictures show Stone Cold with two thin coats.  It very much looks like rocks, which suits the name, and represents the masonry district (District 2) in the Hunger Games books!  The last picture shows Stone Cold layered with one coat of Electrify on two nails and one coat of Luxe and Lush on the other two!

SO! Did you guys like these polishes?  Have you seen the movie or read the books?  I think the books is in my top three favorite series of books, ever!

Monday Mondayyyyy: ICING Twilight!

Hi pretties!

I have a hard time resisting a nice black glitter.  I think it's my weakness.  I'll probably end up frankening one myself when I find a good black glitter that doesn't bleed.  In Icing Twilight's case it's not the glitter pieces that are black, it's the base, but I love it nonetheless.

Twilight is a black jelly/cream based polish packed full of fine holographic silver glitters.  I think it'd be a great polish to use when doing an "outerspace" themed manicure.  It just looks like the night sky plastered on your nail!  The formula for this polish had a good consistency and went on more like a cream than it did a glitter, which was excellent.  It also only needed 2 coats for full coverage. 

I only have a couple other Icing polishes, and I really like all of them, but this one is probably my favorite!  Have you guys tried this one or picked it up yet?

Nail-Venturous VooDoo Doll!

I've got a pretty one to show you guys today made by my friend Amy at I'm Feeling Nail-Venturous!

It's called VooDoo Doll!

Ahhh I love it!  There is something about black and white together that I just love.  This polish has a black base with large and medium white hex glitter and small silver glitter.  I can't get enough of it!  This is shown with 3 coats. 

Amy is currently not selling her frankens right now, but may open an Etsy shop in the future.  Regardless you should check out her blog, she's really great!

Finger Paints Flakies!!

Helllllo lovelies!

Sorry it's been a while!  I had all those posts set up for the holidays when I'd be out of town and ended up being busy for much longer than that!  Anywhoooo I've still been painting my nails and taking pictures, so I've got quite a few to show you! 

I'll start with the most recent, because I know lots of people are talking about and searching for the new Finger Paints flakie polishes!  And if you're not, you should be because they are awesome! 

My Sally's had all of them when I went up there this weekend, but as I had forgotten my coupons and I wasn't sure if I'd like them or not, I only picked up the two that I liked the most from swatches: Motley and Flecked.  Oh and the black that came with them: Black Expressionism.  Surprisingly I didn't have a black cream, gasp!  I know, I know...but I never liked dark colors before.  But this one, is GREAT!  I mean, it IS black, but I was still surprised to see that it covered perfectly in one coat.  BUT, since dark polishes are a little unforgiving and I'm a little sloppy, so I put on two coats to cover up parts of the nail I missed.   

First up, Motley:

Holy moly Motley is a beauty!  It's a beautiful purpley blue-to-green flakie that looks awesome when it catches the light!  It seems super royal blue to me, but I've heard it being called purple before, what do you think?  I love the blue to teal to green transition, it matches my house haha.  It goes on a little sparse for my taste, so this is two coats!

Okay so after I took my time cleaning up black and swatching Motley, no part of me wanted to take it off and swatch Flecked.  I didn't think it'd hold a candle to Motley!  SO I just decided to add a coat of Flecked on top of Motley and BAM! It's awesome:

Wooo!  I love this combination.  Flecked on it's own is a bright teal-to-green flakie and since both Motley and Flecked have the teal/green in them, I thought they'd look great together and I was right!  Flecked is a bit more dense than Motley so I only put one coat on for this look.  Together it's like all the colors of the sea came together on my nail.  In the sun the green from Flecked catches and shines pretty brilliantly.  I think they'd look great over a dark blue or dusty teal polish, as well!  I'll have to try that in the future.

My wallet desperately wants me to resist buying the rest of these Finger Paints flakies, but we'll see what I decide in the future :)

G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S!

Ooh I know I said I'd update last night but I had to work on a last minute paper and then I needed to get to bed early for some interview stuffs this morning.

So I'm in DC, can't remember if I told you guys, and after I got in yesterday I hit up Pentagon City mall and went on a polish hunt!  Didn't really find anything except two glitter polishes from Icing.  Actually one of them was one of the Charlie Sheen polishes called Epic Winning (blue holo glitter) and the other was one called Gimme Some Glitter (pink glitter).  I'll probably use them for giveaways so I'll just post pics of them at a later date.  Trace at the TraceFace Philes just posted a whole entry about the Charlie Sheen polishes so check her out if you're curious!!

Anyway, so I think I found the most fabulous polish I have.  It's another polish from Icing called Glamorous.  I actually initially went into Icing yesterday to pick up another one of these for a giveaway but they didn't have anymore!  I'll have to check back in Ohio.  Anyway, it's a FABULOUS rainbow holographic glitter polish. 

My pictures do NOT capture this fabulous polish in it's entirety and the pictures actually make it look a little more transparent than it is in person.  However, after three coats of this stuff it's so glittery you can't even see through the shine to your nail :)

Someone told me (I think Fiona) that you can take better pictures of neon polishes underwater, so I tried that with this.  You can kind of see the rainbow under water!

I'm pretty disappointed that I couldn't capture this well...but if you have an Icing in your area you should RUN, don't walk, there as soon as possible and pick this up, I promise you won't regret it!  And cosmetics there are buy 1 get 1 half off!!   Three coats made this polish insanely awesome.

I swatched most of my polishes on some nail wheels I bought the other day and when I swatched my crackles I used three coats of Glamorous for my base with OPI Black Shatter!  I loved it so much I decided to do a full mani of it.

 It looked awesome in the sunlight!  I didn't wear a top coat with this because I knew I only was wearing it for a day since it's not interview appropriate!  I desperately wish I would've put on a top coat in between the glitter and the shatter, though!  When I tried to take the glitter off by itself it was so rough it tore up my remover pads.  It was like I was rubbing them on concrete!  Glitter is hard enough to get off as it is because it gets everywhere, but this was just insane!  It didn't make me love it any less, though :)

I was THRILLED with how the Funky Fingers came out.  Sand & Stilettos and Glamorous look similar in this picture but in person you can see some differences.  Sand and Stilettos is a much finer glitter size-wise but I think the holo in Glamorous is better.  I'll swatch them side by side on my nails in the future!
