Funky Fingers Teal Scales!

Okay. So.  I was bored with crackle polishes for a while, but I have a new love!

And it is called Teal Scales!  I'm bummed because I bought this the day after Thanksgiving and went back to look for another bottle last week and they had no more!  I haven't been to the other Five Below, yet, so I guess I'll have to check that out sometime soon!

I first added two coats of OPI Designer de Better and then one coat of Teal Scales, beautiful!  I wish my pictures showed the full effects of this awesome polish.  The BF said it looked like dragon skin, hah.

Wee it's a beautiful combination of a shimmer metallic teal that transitions from blue to green in certain lighting.  I love it!  I need to think of some better polish combinations to show off it's beauty better--anyone have any good ideas?!

Have a great new year!  Hopefully I'll be able to post again before then :)

ORLY Fowl Play!

Hey pretties!

Hope you all had a great holiday, I sure did!  But it's back to work tomorrow and Thursday!  Ugh!

So this is a swatch from like...a month or so ago that I forgot to post!  Bummer :(

But that's okay, I'm getting to it now!  If you haven't seen it already, ORLY Fowl Play is a beauuutifulll dark purple FLAKIE polish!  It has a purple jelly base with a bunch of different colored flakies in it including red and yellow with some small silver glitters as well.  I love it.  It's definitely my favorite from the whole Birds of a Feather collection!

It needs two coats for opacity, but these pictures are with three since I needed to fill it in a bit.  Check out this beauty!

Ahhh!  Love it.  My pictures are a little on the dark side, so I encourage you to check out some other swatches as well to see the full extent of this awesome polish!  Or just go take my word for it and buy it immediately :)  I know you have Christmas gift cards to use!

Love you ladies!

Candy Cane Stripes!

Merry Christmas Eve!

I've had this mani on all week because I like it so much.

That and the fact that I'm out of town and would rather hang out with people I don't see often than paint my nails :)

BUT I love it nonetheless and I've got quite a few compliments on it.  Probably because they didn't look too close and notice that I made white streaks accidentally because I'm too impatient before I add topcoat, but whatever!  Here it is:

Yes I realize those are all pretty much the same picture.  But oh well!

I've seen candy-cane and striped mani's all over the place lately but it seemed easy enough for me to do quickly and it turned out pretty well, I think!

I used two coats of China Glaze Ruby Pumps and then just added diagonal white stripes with a color club art club polish.  Voila!  I also added a glittery/holo top coat to make the white sparkly like the red but you can't really tell.

Wellll that's it for now!  Hope you guys have a great Christmas if that's what you celebrate!

Another Color Club Scented Polish--Sugar Plum Yum!

So after trying Color Club Orna-Minted, I decided to try the other giant scented glitter polish I picked up by Color Club: Sugar Plum Yum!

It is a pretty color combination of smaller green glitters and large dark blue/violet glitters all packed into one.  Since the green glitters looked similar to CC Holiday Splendor, I decided to use two coats of that as a base and here's what I came up with:

I found that the blue glitters are just so large that in some places it looked like I had dented the polish! Although it's possible that I did, haha. It does smell delicious though, kind of like candy!

I think I added two coats of Sugar Plum Yum on top of Holiday Splendor and it was just tooo much for me!  Too much glittery green and blue.  However, I saw Scrangie's swatches of this and I like it much better on top of black.  Honestly, though, I'll probably never use this polish again, so I'll probably put it in my blog sale when I get back in town!

Have you guys tried any of the CC scented polishes for the holidays?  Do you like them?

Christmasss timeeee

Hey ladiesss!  I've got a few Christmas mani's to show you the next few days!

Here is the first one.  It's kind of a mix of a bunch of different things and then glitter-fied so it looks super bling.  I didn't get very good pictures of this, some are from my cell phone, so I apologize in advance:

Cuticle oil FTW

So yes...very...Christmas-ey.

For the red nails I added a layer of OPI Animalistic and then two layers of OPI Gettin' Miss Piggy With It!

For the greens I did a layer of ORLY Lucky Duck and then two layers of OPI Fresh Frog of Bel-Air.

Then I decided there just wasn't enough silver glitter and added some Color Club Orna-Minted, which is super huge silver glitter pieces that smell like mint.  Yum!

It was a glittery mess, to say the least, and ended up being super thick, but I rocked it for a few days anyway!

Hope you all are having a great holiday season!

First Holiday Nail Art! Snowflakes!

Remember Funky Finger Sound Check???

I used it as a base for my first holiday manicure with snowflakes!

I wish I'd had a nail art pen...or better yet, a stamping plate with snowflakes, but I tried anyway and regardless of it's sloppiness, it turned out so sparkly I barely notice:

It's so shiny in person!  I used Funky Fingers Sound Check as a base (since it's awesome), then I used a white nail art polish for the snowflakes and dots!

Then I added some glitter chunks here and there using Color Clubs Orna-Minted (and it smells like mint, yum!).  Then for some added sparkle I added a holographic top coat I have from Northern Lights (not pictured).

Overall I think it turned out okay for free hand!  Snowflakes are hard!

What do you think? Have you ladies tried snowflakes before??

Funky Fingers Sound Check!

Okay.  So normally I don't do "blue" polish very much, but Cold Metal was the only Color Club polish I kept from the Foil'd collection (the rest are on my blogsale!), and when I saw Funky Fingers Sound Check was the same exact color, I picked it up to have a back-up!

I tried FF first because this was around when I wanted a blue and holy moly, I LOVE it! I don't even like the foiled polishes but maybe I'm going to have to give them a second chance.

Sound Check can be a 1-coater polish if you're in a hurry (and you're awesome at polishing and can get it looking great the first time haha...I can't!), but I used two for these pictures.  As usual, Funky Fingers consistency is awesome, I don't know how they're so cheap!  I NEED a Five Below in Knoxville!  I'll just have to stock up when I go home to Columbus :)

Check it out:

!111!!!!! Love.

I don't know how this polish got so awesome.  I may have to go buy more because I want to have this forever.

Have you guys tried this?  I picked up Teal Scales as well and I'm dyinggggggg to try it, but I don't know what to put under it!

P.S. Hope you aren't sick of this 'cause I got nail art to show you with Sound Check later ;)

Rockin Something Different Today....from Scünci!

Oh gosh! I forgot to mention that TWO lovely bloggers tagged me for the Versatile Blogger Award!  Thank you so much Connie and Nail Designs!  However, I've already received this and made my list before.  Thanks so much again, though!  I really appreciate it :)

I've got something a little different today.  I'm going to give a brief review of some new hair clips I had the opportunity to try from scünci!

They are called Linziclips and they are new form of "claw" clips with hidden springs and smoother claws!

They come in three sizes: mini, medi, and maxi!  I elected to try the mini clips.  They work like the small butterfly clips, but they're a tad bit bigger.  Here are some additional "views" of them so you can see what I mean by hidden springs:

This is what the top looks like...no more ugly "wings" or visible springs!

Underside...the clamps come together in a smooth line that doesn't dig into your scalp
The teeth hold the hair tight while being much more comfortable than a normal claw clip!  Since the bottom is flat you can even lay down with these clips in and they don't dig into your head like the old ones!  This is a biggie for me...'cause I work 10 hours a day and I can't have hair clips hurtin' my head after a few hours.

Also what I think is cool about these is that the top is relatively flat as well.  This means that while you're pinning up your cute hair style, you don't have butterfly wings sprouting from your head ruining your style, haha.  They come in all kinds of colors and designs so you can even match them to your outfit.

Overall, I like the mini ones a lot, although they don't "open" enough for me--I think I'm going to have to go out and get some of the "medi" sized ones for the hairstyles I want!  The mini ones are perfect for pulling back a little bit of hair (like for "pinning up" the sides or your bangs), but won't work for a half-up-do like I had hoped 'cause my hair is just too thick!

You can find these from $3.99-$5.99 at most major retailers or drug stores!  You can check out more information on their facebook page!

Have you guys tried these?  I'm glad I got to try them out--I don't normally look at new hair clips, but maybe I should stop by and see what else scunci has to offer :)

<3 Whitney

P.S. A set of these hair clips (in whatever size you want) will be up for grabs in another giveaway I'll be hosting soon along with some Softlips chapsticks and other goodies...keep your eyes open for this one coming soon!

Softlips Winter Flavors!

Helllo my lovlies!

I hope I didn't put any of you in a panic last week when I said that my giveaway ended last Friday...because I was wrong, haha!  I thought it ended on the 9th when in truth I initially had it ending on the 15th!  SOOOooooooo you still have a full 6 days to enter if you haven't yet!

I've got a great non-polish related product to tell you about today!

I'm sure most of you have heard of Softlips--it's one of the best chap stick brands out there in my opinion.  Wellll they've got four new winter flavors out and I was lucky enough to be able to try them!

Two packs!
The great flavors I was sent to try were: Winter Mint, Sugar Cookie, Sugar & Spice, and Sugar Plum Berry.  And they sent them to me in a cute drawstring satchel:

I realize there are only two in here...well that's because my boyfriend stole one and the other I left at work :)
These were definitely festive flavors that I was excited to try!

Winter Mint is definitely my favorite of the bunch!  That is the one I keep on me all day at work.  It's got just the perfect hint of peppermint that makes you think of candy canes and Christmas time :)  I love minty chap sticks in general...the mint tingle makes it feel like it's working!

Sugar Plum Berry is my second favorite.  It's got a strong berry flavor with a touch of tingle as well!  It smells or tastes like a candy or something but I just can't place my finger on it...

Sugar Cookie was probably my least favorite of the bunch.  It does taste JUST like a sugar cookie, though!  And don't get me wrong...I love sugar cookies, but things that aren't cookies that taste or smell like cookies just weird me out, hah!  But if you're one of those who loves those "vanilla icing" flavored chap sticks or cookies scented candles, you'll probably love it.  This one was the BF's favorite and he stole it!  I haven't seen it since I took them out of the box hah.

Sugar and Spice smells just like winter time.  I can't really describe it very well...oh I got it!  It's like spice cake!  But without the "not food but tasting like food" vibe that I got from Sugar Cookie.  I liked this one a lot, too!

Overall, I'd definitely buy these if I ran out anytime soon :)  I love Softlips because it's got that good tingly feeling you get from great chapstick and they have SPF 20 to protect your lips even more during those harsh winter months!

Lucky for you, they're not that expensive!  You can get them at most drug stores (Or even Target/Walmart) in select two packs for $3.99, or if you want all 4 in a cute satchel like I got (+1 free in Mint with a hint of Vanilla flavor), you can order it online exclusively from softlips.com!  These can be used as great stocking stuffers!  If you want some more cute holiday ideas you can try with Softlips, check out their youtube page.

Have you guys tried any of these winter Softlips flavors!?

<3 Whitney

P.S. I will be setting up another giveaway soon that includes the same 4 Softlips flavors I've reviewed today plus some other goodies, so keep your eyes open for it soon!

Fall Nail Art!

First of all: Weeeee 400+ followers!!  Horray!  If I didn't already have a giveaway going on, I'd do another!

Well that reminds me, actually...I will be having another giveaway after this one.  It will be small, but who doesn't like free stuff despite the size? :)

And second: I know.

I suck.  It's been 2 weeks!  I was going so strong for that one week there!  I'm sorry guys.  Work goes in and out of being super stressful and I just don't have it in me after working 10 hours to do my nails.  Not to mention the past few weekends the BF and I have actually had stuff to do :)  And by that I mean the new Legend of Zelda game came out and I've ignored my nails to play video games...

Anywho I just wanted to pop in real quick and show you two nail art projects I've done (semi) recently!

The first one was of my Thanksgiving nails!  I was inspired by the turkeys you used to draw as a kid by tracing your hand:

Let's try and ignore my cuticle here...it's not even my cuticle...it's crust left over from my Posche.  Stupid fast dry top coat!

For this mani I used (thumb to pinky): CG Happy Go Lucky Base, CG Papaya Punch, Essie Brazilliant, OPI Animal-istic + ORLY Ma Cherie (Couldn't decide haha), and OPI Pepe's Purple Passion.

For the turkey I used OPI Warm and Fozzie (<3) and a combo of the other colors used on the other nails.  For the eyes I actually used some sort of calcium base polish that I had with me...I didn't have any white or light polishes with me when I went home to my parents, haha!  Yay for creepy turkeys.

And more recently (like...yesterday), I decided to try these cute owl nails that I initially saw done by Cristina at Let Them Have Polish who was inspired by Sarah at Chalkboard Nails (Also sort of inspired by Cindy Blogs Nails hahaha).  Let all of the gorgeous bloggers get some credit for this cute idea :)

All of their owls were cute and colorful...but once I tried Warm and Fozzie I knew it'd look great!  It's such a pretty color, I wish I'd used it sooner before it turned all cold and wintery.

With flash
Some of their eyeballs turned out wonky (you should see my right hand...or maybe you shouldn't...), but I still think they're cute nonetheless.  I had terrible shrinkage from my top coat (Poshe), which bums me out 'cause I wanted to wear this for a while....maybe I'll fill it in and pretend it was never there.  Anywho...I love this idea because I love owls!

Here's the polishes I used:

OPI Warm & Fozzie, Funky Fingers Cayman Island, Zoya Tangy, CG Happy Go Lucky, Art Club Red, and a nail art pen in black!

Obviously I used Warm and Fozzie as the base...the only thing I used the FF for was the belly...Tangy wasn't opaque enough to go over the brown so I had to put that on first.  The rest you should be able to figure out :)

Initially I tried to use little round dot stickers that I had to get the half-moon shape but they were kind of thick and it didn't really work out for me so well.  I had to fill in the owl "horns" a bit.  I wanted some of the hole-reinforcer stickers but they didn't have those where I went.  I think they're thinner and more pliable, which should work better (or so I hear).

I have very little patience with nail art so I'm surprised at both of these!

Hope you enjoyed...I'll be back soon (this weekend) with some great reviews I have planned!

Don't forget to enter my GIVEAWAY! It ends Friday :)  And check out my blogsale if you're looking for some extra polishes for the holidays!
