Nail Venturous: Burst of Blue!

I have another great Nail Venturous polish to show you ladies today!  It's called Burst of Blue!

Wee!   I will never tire of Amy's polishes.  They are just so good! 

Burst of Blue is a clear polish filled with fine blue and black matte hex glitter, larger white hex, and black and white bar glitter!  You can slap one coat this beauty over any other color to give it a cool blue effect or you can wear it on it's own!  I used three coats for these pictures and for the polish to appear opaque.  I really like these colors together!  My bedroom is actually black and white and teal, so naturally I like this a lot :)

Another Indie! Featuring: Glitter Daze's April Rain

Boy do I have a beauty for you ladies today! 

Have you heard of Glitter Daze? Sana has made some super pretty glitter-filled polishes!  She's actually got a blog where she features them as well--beautiful! 

The one I have to show you today is from Sana's Simply Spring Collection--a beautiful collection of glitter spring-colored polishes, all with cocktail themed names! Such a cute idea!

Honestly when I saw the bottle, I loved the color but had now idea how awesome it was until I swatched it!  April Rain is GORGEOUS! 

April Rain is a beautiful light blue/teal polish loaded with silver, sea foam green, and blue glitters!  I think this is a fabulous spring AND summer polish and I'm super psyched to have it in my collection.  It goes on opaque in 2 coats, but I used 3 for these pictures, but would be beautiful with 1 coat layered over another color.  As a matter of fact you can see Sana's blog post here that shows it layered.  Lovely!

Nerdlacquer Hyperspace Bypass!

So have you guys heard of Ninja Polish yet!?  I mentioned it a while ago, but if you missed it, Ninja Polish is a fabulous website owned by two of my polish friends that sells foreign and indie polishes at super reasonable prices!  It's my new favorite website, no joke!

This is where I picked up Nerdlacquer Hyperspace Bypass.  Now, I'm usually behind on all the trends so I hadn't tried Nerdlacquer before this, and since I love yellow I thought I'd check it out!

Honest to goodness this is probably the ugliest polish I own and I think that's why I like it so much haha.  It's more greenish-yellow than I expected, but it's really grown on me while I've worn it all day! 

It's so strange and unique and I really like the different size large iridescent hex glitters and the black glitter just adds to the weirdness :) Not to mention the nerd name, love that, too! 

I really liked the formula on this polish, I was actually quite surprised!  It wasn't too thick and went on great in just two coats!  I'd definitely order more from Nerd Lacquer, there's a few on my wishlist now :)  Unfortunately (for me), she's gotten so popular as of late that her stuff doesn't stay in stock for long!

CG Capitol Colors Part 2

Now that the Hunger Games movie is out and getting rave reviews, I thought I'd review a few more of the China Glaze Capitol Colors polishes!  Today I've got for you Electrify, Smoke and Ashes, Luxe and Lush, and Stone Cold.  My mom picked me up a Riveting a while ago, too, but I haven't got it from her yet :( So that's in a future post! 

First: Electrify

Electrify is a clear based polish packed with fine gold and red glitter.  It's dense enough for you to get pretty much full coverage in three coats (as seen above), but would still look great layered over a difference color.  I liked the formula on this one--despite it being packed with glitter, it applied well.

Next: Smoke and Ashes

Smoke and Ashes a dark shimmery black polish with just the slightest hint of greenish blue undertones.  This polish applied quite well in two coats.  I love that in the light you can see the flecks of blue and green in the shimmer.  It's a unique enough of a black for me to wear again :)

Next: Luxe and Lush

Luxe and Lush is a gorgeous rainbow flakie top coat.  Within the milky clear polish are flakies of gold, green, pink, and blue, which I think would look great paired with nearly any color.  They apply decently well, but I believe my pictures show two coats since I really wanted a BAM in your face picture of the flakies.  In the pictures L&L is layered over Smoke and Ashes!

Lastly: Stone Cold!

Stone Cold is the only matte polish in this collection and I like it a lot.  Since mattes dry quickly, you have to apply them quickly and carefully. I don't do the best polishing job right off the bat so my pictures show Stone Cold with two thin coats.  It very much looks like rocks, which suits the name, and represents the masonry district (District 2) in the Hunger Games books!  The last picture shows Stone Cold layered with one coat of Electrify on two nails and one coat of Luxe and Lush on the other two!

SO! Did you guys like these polishes?  Have you seen the movie or read the books?  I think the books is in my top three favorite series of books, ever!

Monday Mondayyyyy: ICING Twilight!

Hi pretties!

I have a hard time resisting a nice black glitter.  I think it's my weakness.  I'll probably end up frankening one myself when I find a good black glitter that doesn't bleed.  In Icing Twilight's case it's not the glitter pieces that are black, it's the base, but I love it nonetheless.

Twilight is a black jelly/cream based polish packed full of fine holographic silver glitters.  I think it'd be a great polish to use when doing an "outerspace" themed manicure.  It just looks like the night sky plastered on your nail!  The formula for this polish had a good consistency and went on more like a cream than it did a glitter, which was excellent.  It also only needed 2 coats for full coverage. 

I only have a couple other Icing polishes, and I really like all of them, but this one is probably my favorite!  Have you guys tried this one or picked it up yet?

More Pretty Julep Polishes: Demi + Oscar

Hey ladiesssss.

I've got an interesting combo for you today.  I am still part of the Julep Maven program but I usually only get the box every other month or so because I'm never thrilled with the stuff in it.  The last box I received was Oscar's themed and came with a dark chocolate "Academy Award", two polishes (Demi and Oscar), and Julep Topcoat for Hair (which is what I really wanted).  Anywho, I always end up putting them on the back burner to try but I was in the mood for a red recently so I thought Demi would be perfect:

Demi is a dark red-wine jelly polish that is a must-have for any red fan.  I really am loving jellies more and more every time I get one to try because the formulas are always so good.  I wish I could find more in colors I love!  This jelly polish is super pigmented and only needed 2 coats for full coverage, but I think I could've just stuck to one if I had been in a hurry.  The only bad thing about this polish is that I had a hard time cleaning it up around my cuticles.  However, it didn't end up staining my nails really so I guess I just need to be more careful!

I decided to pair this polish with one coat of Julep Oscar: a gold glitter in a clear base and here's how it turned out:

Julep Oscar on its own: 3 coats.

I do like both of these polishes.  Oscar ended up being much easier to manage and not as thick as other Julep glitters I've tried.  Despite the great formulas, I already have a few similar colors in my stash (at least 2 other similar reds and 3+ gold glitters), and since I'm trying to purge my stash a little, I decided to put these up on my blog sale!  So if you like them, give 'em a looksie :)

Featuring a Pretty & Polished Franken: Party on My Yacht!

My friend Chelsea at Pretty & Polished makes some pretty sweet franken polishes!  I bought one recently off of her called Party on My Yacht, and I LOVE it!  Check it out:

Party on My Yacht is a pretty white based polish with purple, pink, green, and gold fine glitters.  I was surprised that this polish only needs 2 coats to be opaque, but I used 3 for these pictures to get some extra glitter on there!  It reminds me of some sort of candy like a jawbreaker or cookies 'cream white chocolate or something!  Although she does have another polish CALLED Jawbreaker, lol.  It's beautiful and I've had it on for days!

Excuse Moi, I have another Muppet's OPI for you!

Oh dear, did I seriously not ever post this mani?  I'm so bad, hah.  I just noticed it was on the top of my list and I've been ignoring it all this time.  I'm pretty sure I did this around Christmas time...

Anywhoooooooo this is three coats of OPI Excuse Moi, a pretty, bright pink and silver glitter polish from the OPI Muppets Collection:

Dang, back when I had nubbins.  Although they've gotten back to that recently 'cause I've had a lot of breaks :(

I really loved this glitter, but it was a B to clean up!  As you can see from the pictures, I still have glitter everywhere lol.  It's jam packed with fine pink glitter, but it's also got a decent amount of holographic silver glitter, you can see in my thumb pic that in the light it shows a whole bunch of colors!  I'm in love.  Definitely my favorite from the collection.

More frankens!

Ohh dear what a busy week I had last week!

I finally got our guest bedroom set up with all of my polish things because I got tired of taking up the BF's man cave and living room.  I bought a desk and put it together all by myself and filled it with frankening supplies and polish related goodies!

The boyfriend and I also decided to start volunteering for the Make a Wish foundation, so we had a (long) meeting for that, too.  He did it in Ohio and asked if I'd like to do it with him here and I said sure because who doesn't need to do something nice for others sometimes?

Then I had guests come down and visit this weekend!  My nails have been BARE for like 5 days.  Ugh!  And I broke two...sad story.

Anywho, I thought I'd show you guys the rest of the frankens I made for my first "collection" I'm calling Transition Metals.  Because...they're named after transition metals (I = nerd).  I'm super excited for this because I've been making frankens for a while and I love it!  I was hoping to get to the point where I can sell them on Etsy or something, but I'm not sure what reaction I will get.

I mean, I can't be the only nerdy nail-polish enthusiast who will be as excited as I am about elemental names, haha.  So here's the next couple I've made.

First up: Fool's Gold

I wish I had painted my nails with this on a day it was sunny!  This is three coats of Fool's Gold in artificial lighting and I just couldn't capture the vibrant gold glitter that's in this polish!  It's a metallic gold based polish with various sized gold and holographic gold glitters!  I'm not into golds, usually, but this is one of my favorites.  And it's appropriately named after the 79th element: gold!

Next up: Iron Man-ia

Iron Man-ia is a red jelly based polish that consists of both fine red and gold glitter and large holographic gold hex glitter.  It needs three coats to become opaque, but there's a decent amount of glitter, so if you were using it as a layering polish, one coat would probably do.  Named for iron, the 26th element, and a little bit of comic book nerdiness as well :)

Next up, going a different route other than glitter: Manganese, Please!

Manganese, Please, is a dark teal based polish that has a slight duochrome aspect to it.  In certain light it goes from dark purple to teal to blue, but it's a lot more subtle than Co-Balt of Lightning that I showed you the other day!  It's got a bit of a shimmer to it, but it clings to the ridges in your nail...I think I've got a bit of an iron deficiency and you can really see the vertical ridges in my nails in the second picture.  You can also see where I messed up on my ring finger...but let's not focus too much on that!  I used three coats for this picture.  Manganese is the 25th element. 

Last up is "Can I buy you a Zinc?"

Holos show your ridges very well, too apparently!  Can I Buy You a Zinc? is a dusty green/gray holo.  This is another one I had to do photograph in artificial lighting, but would do better in the sun.  Inside it definitely has a more gray tone to it, but outdoors it's very obviously green.  I was going for a brighter green polish here, but I ended up liking this one a lot anyway!  This one only needs two coats for full opaqueness.  Can I Buy you a Zinc is named after Zinc, the 30th element.

I have one more in this "collection" called Copper-nicus (which I named after copper before I realized one of the obscure elements is called Copernicium, hah!  Oh well), which I haven't got around to swatching yet.  It's a copper looking color on it's own, but it's a red metallic duochrome over black.  Very pretty!  I'll show you guys later :)

So what do you guys think?  I'd like some feedback on these!

I know I've talked a lot in this entry, sorry!  BUT someone last post commented when I asked for help thinking of element-related names that I should post pictures of the polishes I made to better help them think of names.  Welllll, I'm going about it a bit differently.  All of the elements that I knew what colors/finishes I wanted them to have, I've pretty much either made or planned.  Now I'm trying to think of names for the rest first and then plan after, hah.  I don't know if it's a bit backwards or not, but oh well!

I still have the ones I listed in the first franken post I need help with, but here's a few more:

51 - Antimony
34 - Selenium
24 - Chromium
77 - Iridium
74 - Tungsten
